Motivation Monday: 1940 Census

the1940census.com
There are only 35 days until the 1940 US Census will be released on April 2, 2012. This Census will be released without a index, but with our help, we can have it indexed in no time. The 1940 US Census Community Project is looking for individuals or groups to volunteer and help create this index. The indexing software can be downloaded here.

I have already downloaded and indexed some records; and it was very simple and fast. I worked on the World War 2 Draft Cards for Arkansas, and found it very fun and rewarding. Right now, you can practice on Indexing for the 1940 Census by downloading a practice batch.

For more information and to download the software, visit the1940Census.com.

Tuesday Tip: Altoona Mirror Obituary Index

Altoona Mirror Obituary Index
This obituary index covers obituaries published since 1929 in The Altoona Mirror newspaper in Altoona, Pennsylvania. The price is $3.00 per photocopy page and includes the cost of shipping and handling. The online index makes it easy for you to find your correct person(s), and the turn around time is fast.
I was able to locate a number of my PATTILLO line, that had moved to the Pennsylvania area. All requests must be sent in writing and must include the name(s) of the deceased exactly as they are listed in the index, the date(s) listed in the index and payment by cash, check or money order.

M. I. A.

Sorry for not posting, but I fell and sprained my shoulder, so typing had been very painful.
During this time, I was able to check out Evidence Explained by Elizabeth Shown Mills from my local library, and I have been trying to correct my years of bad citation in my genealogy research. Yes, I was one of those persons to only have a citation of "1900." I still don't even know what it was supposed to make me remember. I am hoping to continue to correct those over the coming weeks.
I also recieved some obituaries I sent for, from the Ohio Obituary project and from the Altoona Mirror Obituary Index, that I will post here, soon.
